Why BTI Brought Hugh To You

BTI » Hugh Evans » Why BTI Brought Hugh To You

From Dr Amy Edwards, Chief Executive.

People have asked me why BTI brought Hugh Evan's to New Zealand for his first visit, and why we are continuing to be involved in the Global Poverty Project. The answer is simple. We believe in his message - that everyone and anyone can make a real difference to the lives of others. When I heard Hugh speak at a Christian Management Australia conference in Australia in 2008 I came back enthused and determined to bring him to New Zealand. Hugh is an inspiration to young and old. His message is one of vision and hope combined with pragmatism and real possibilities.

BTI is a place of learning where service to others is an integral part of our curriculum and culture. All of our students undertake 'missions', that is, take time out of their busy lives to serve either nationally or internationally. BTI is motivated by a Christian worldview to serve and through this to bring about real change in the lives of individuals, families, communities and nations.

Hugh's mission, and the focus of the Global Poverty Project, is to eradicate extreme poverty in the world. Each individual or organisation can have a role in this. BTI sees its role in training teachers and counsellors as critical to making a difference in the world. We believe, as stated by Nelson Mandela that Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world. Without education change is not sustainable. BTI is currently working in the Pacific, particularly Tonga, to train untrained teachers currently working in church schools to fulfill this mandate.

BTI, through Luisa Schroder, will continue to be involved with the Global Poverty Project. To find out more about our involvement and how you can also become involved contact Luisa Schroder

I want to leave a legacy
How will they remember me?
Did I choose to love?
Did I point to You enough?
To make a mark on things
I want to leave an offering
A child of mercy and grace
Who blessed Your name unapologetically
And leave that kind of legacy
