Study to become an ECE, Primary or Secondary Teacher with BTI.
Accredited by NZQA and the New Zealand Teachers Council, BTI’s Teacher Education programmes include significant time with children in schools and early childhood centres. We focus on three areas of development to help you become not just any teacher, but a memorable teacher!
We focus on who you are as a teacher. We know that teaching is not just a set of skills. ‘We know that teaching is not just a set of skills and we believe you will teach out of who you are – your person; that’s what children remember!’ So we’re interested in your personal and spiritual development. These courses are called PIPI: Professional Inquiry and Personal Integration. There is small group work, discussion, mentoring and teaching input.
Research and knowledge are important so you learn to think like a teacher; we include courses that extend your knowledge of education and teaching skills and look at each aspect through a Christian worldview. Courses cover Christian Education, human development, cultural and multi-cultural issues and the power of research to refine what we do.
Time in the classroom is important to put the knowledge into practice. You will learn how to create stimulating environments for children.
Katie Mulvay graduated from BTI with a Bachelor of Education (Teaching) Primary in 2010. This is what she had to say about her experience:
"I would highly recommend studying at BTI. I felt that the staff were very supportive and willing to give of their time to help when needed. I really enjoyed the community environment within BTI and the efforts that the campus, staff and students were involved in to make this a great environment to study in. I really admire the way that BTI encourages and seeks to build and develop you as a person rather than just to enable you to gain a qualification. BTI incorporates strong Christian values within the course which I really value."
